Childproofing Your Home

‘Tis the season for friends and family popping in to say hi. Have a few extra wrapped gifts around just in case a visitor comes your way and be ready to childproof your home in the time it takes your friends to make it from the highway exit to your home.

From a Jezebel article on Childproofing for the Childless:

“The idea of hosting a toddler may be difficult for you to wrap your mind around, but as soon as you’re done panicking, think of a baby like the world’s most expensive and cunning puppy. This is going to be a challenge, but you can MacGyver your way out of this.”

The article offers up some excellent tips including using rubber bands to keep cabinets shut and placing expensive jewelry, fragile items and drugs out of reach. (Duh.)

Or maybe someone could actually hold and/or watch the baby? I always keep a basket full of toys and books for kids. (It seems to work on ADD adults as well.)

If you really can’t handle mini guests here is another alternative: make some eggnog put it in a thermos and hide in an upstairs bedroom until they leave.

WNKers Do you childproof for guests with kids?
